A talk by Prof. Hassan al-Naboodah at the launch event of the Cambridge University Emirati Society. Hassan’s research interests include Arabic history, with a particular focus on the UAE and Arabian Gulf.
440 years ago the Venetian jeweller and merchant G. Balbi visited Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah during his travels to India and the East from 1579 to 1588. Prof. Al Naboodah briefly mentions Balbi in his talk on the pre-oil society and economy of the Emirates. He also talks about the winter and summer migrations, Ahmad ibn Mājid, and the Al-Duror calendar.
