Project

I made this illustration by performing image segmentation and color remapping of a Scanning Electron Microscopy image of a perovskite film into a custom heat map. Most of the processing was done in Photoshop.

This image was featured in the frontispiece of Advanced Functional Materials vol 45 and introduces our article.

Synchrotron nXRD can be used to simultaneously probe the morphology and the structural properties of spin-coated CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite films for photovoltaic devices. A method to visualize, selectively isolate, and structurally characterize single perovskite grains buried within a complex, polycrystalline film is developed.

Background

Using a professional illustrator for scientific illustrations can be extremely beneficial for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is that a professional illustrator has the necessary skills and knowledge to create accurate and effective visual representations of scientific concepts and data.

In the world of science, accuracy is of the utmost importance. When it comes to communicating scientific ideas, it is essential that the illustrations used are accurate and able to effectively convey the necessary information. A professional illustrator has the training and expertise to ensure that the illustrations they create are accurate and effective at communicating the intended information.

Another benefit of using a professional illustrator is that they can help to make complex scientific concepts more accessible and understandable to a wider audience. Scientific illustrations can be a powerful tool for helping to explain and clarify complex ideas, and a professional illustrator has the skills and experience to create illustrations that are both visually appealing and effective at communicating scientific concepts.

In addition to the benefits of accuracy and accessibility, using a professional illustrator can also add credibility to a scientific publication. Peer-reviewed articles are held to a high standard, and using high-quality illustrations can help to demonstrate the attention to detail and level of care that went into the research and writing process.

Overall, using a professional illustrator for scientific illustrations can greatly enhance the effectiveness and credibility of a scientific publication. Whether you are writing a peer-reviewed article or creating a presentation, investing in professional illustrations can be a worthwhile decision that can pay off in terms of the impact and reach of your work.
